The previous vintage of Virtus Gran Reserva 2014 becomes the only wine with Ribera del Duero designation of Origin to achieve a Platinum medal (97 points) at the Decanter World Wine awards – DWWA awards 2020. They proclaim it to be one of the best and most prestigious red wines in the world.
The DWWA recognises wines that stand out for their added excellence, complexity and character, distinguishing them with a superior award that places them amongst the best wines in the world.
The Decanter Platinum Medal is reserved for wines with very special exclusive features. In this edition, the jury tasted 16,518 wines from 34 different countries, and only 178 achieved this medal, amongst them, seven Spanish red wines.

Tasting Note : The selection of the finest grapes in the estate resulting in an extraordinary wine. It has mineral, chalky and spices notes with hints of roast coffee and toast. The wine is dense and powerful on the palate, with a very round, soft and velvety texture. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 24 months in fine lees (100 % new French oak barrels).
Virtus’s Gran Reserva wine is the emblem of the winery, a selection of the finest grapes, manually harvested from the vines that are up to a hundred years old, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero winemaking region. Clusters of Tempranillo grapes are aged in French oak barrels for 24 months, resulting in an elegant, potent wine; a wine with a soul that is unique, with limited production.
